ART... the scatter

We asked who’s in the park last week and this week we know more. A few articles in various papers, The Sun, the Tyee … have brought to light things we all assumed, were rumoured, knew but couldn’t prove. I encourage you to read and form your own opinion.

As for now on this weeks blog we’re going to let the fence continue to talk, share and show. Yesterday the fence was full of flying piece flags and as I drove by I thought wow it looks pretty good. What a nice installation working with nature and waving at all that pass by; a show for the pedestrian or motorist. This morning I received a text from a nieghbour, who took their dog for a walk around the park informing me that things had changed. Off I went to walk to the fence and see what took place.

This is what happened.

It wasn’t the violent teardown of what appeared to be an angry or crazed drugged out hand of antagonism — posted a few weeks ago that took place the day before the neighbourhood protested park occupation. Since the violent act flags have disappeared in more of a shopping style of disappearance. Today was another conversation. Hmmm, what do you think when you see these flags? I see scattered and tossed aside efforts of a beautiful group of people ( CAWM collective) and their efforts to create something positive in a dark time.

I’m not disheartened but rather look at those ties on the fence — the skeletons of the installation or the bones of the piece flags. I see a clean slate. I see an opportunity for more flags to go up. God love Evelyn from Richmond who just gave me a whole set of piece flags with slogans. Look forward to next weeks fence revival.
